First International Bank & Trust of Rugby

Rugby, North Dakota

Located at the geographical center of North America, First International Bank & Trust’s new Rugby facility is inspired by the deep-seated values of the bank: stability, safety, and community. The Bank is a modern interpretation of a regional lake cabin that reflects the feeling of historic permanence and partnership. To further regional context, JLG used traditional materials like natural stone and a large timber roofline that protects from the summer sun and harsh winter elements. Inside, a redesigned central core decreases the walking time for staff to keep wait times to a minimum, and an indoor fireplace and outdoor patio welcome both customers and employees. Large expanses of glass invite the community inside to a gathering space with panoramic views of the prairie, a vital part of Rugby’s identity. The Bank also chose to pay homage to the history of the property by prominently displaying the site’s longtime restaurant tenant’s sign from “The Hub.”  Fusing inspiration from the Bank’s mission and the beauty of the surrounding region, First International created a welcoming destination with optimized client services – reflecting both strong community values and employee wellness.

“When we invest in our bank locations, it’s about more than the building, it’s about our people and our long-term presence in each market. JLG Architects gets that. They bring a disciplined, collaborative approach and deliver outcomes that elevate both the FIBT employee experience and our brand.”

– Peter Stenehjem, CEO First International Bank & Trust
