The Alexandria School District inherited community activities programming from the Lakes Area Recreation Authority, putting the District in dire need of additional space for community service growth. This opportunity integrated Lakes Area Recreation community activities with the current programming offered by Alexandria School District’s Community Education – developing synergies of the District school operations and curriculums. JLG leveraged that synergy by designing a new community education addition onto Woodland Elementary.
This expanded Early Childhood programming for the community and offered a new home to the region’s only indoor children’s playground. As part of the design, JLG incorporated a new gymnastics center and additional gym space that connects to Discovery Middle School, serving youth/club gymnastics and the District’s varsity gymnastics program. The extra gym space integrates multi-use, community recreation with physical education and team practice space for students. By reinforcing Alexandria’s programming, their community is empowered and inspired to embrace life-enhancing experiences through engaging learning opportunities and innovative services.
