West Fargo, North Dakota had two existing ice sheets to handle a rapidly-growing population and demand for ice time. In need of expansion, the School District turned to JLG to provide a cost-effective design for a new facility on the west side of town.
The arena includes two ice sheets — one as a 1,000 seat competition rink, and the other as a 400-seat rink for practice, tournaments, and games with lower attendance demands. Through creative design, the facility can “transform” into the home ice for either West Fargo schools with minimal physical requirements. This adaptation saves the District upfront building cost and operating expense for both schools to have their own dedicated rink. The new arena boasts wonderful views provided by several seating areas and some enclosed areas.
The design also integrates multiple locker rooms for each ice sheet, and space for referees, athletic training, and a public skating change area. To support the rinks and future growth of a third ice sheet, a large open main lobby offers ticket sales, a community room, and concessions.
