Splash Valley Aquatics

Apple Valley, Minnesota

The Apple Valley Family Aquatic Center first opened in 1999, operated by the City of Apple Valley Parks & Recreation. Recognizing the Center’s need for critical ADA and infrastructure upgrades, the City leveraged the opportunity to rebrand the 4.3-acre facility, address its lack of shade, and adjust its amenities. This project, reopened in May of 2025, focused on creating a new user experience without expansion. Staying within a minimal budget, the City worked with JLG and Sports Facilities Companies to rebrand the aquatic center to “Splash Valley” while creating a more exciting main entry sequence, with fun photo ops and fluid branding that visually connect the exterior to the interior’s reconditioned aquatic park. Additional feedback from web-based stakeholder engagement meetings and community design charrettes led to the integration of pre-manufactured shade structures/cabanas throughout the park, a trellis at the concessions, and sustainable design solutions that minimize environmental impact. These features included bathhouse solar panels, high-efficiency water filtration, and hardscape reduction to minimize heat island effects. Working with the Center’s more traditional aesthetic, JLG reimagined the existing facility by overlaying fun, contemporary, and durable elements. With new amenities, enhanced accessibility, and sustainable design, Splash Valley is ready to make waves for decades of summer fun.
