Valley City’s original Hanna Athletic Field was constructed in 1942, with several improvements completed over the last 70 years. With cost-efficient solutions needed for future sustainability, Valley City Public Schools and JLG envisioned an athletic complex at Hanna Field that would expand the use of the site to include track and field, as well as girls softball. The master plan, in partnership with JLG and KLJ Construction, consisted of five phases to be completed over time as funding becomes available. Phase One in 2020 included track resurfacing, the construction of an athletic storage building, and addressing site drainage issues.
Phase Two improves the restrooms, locker rooms, and concessions. Phase Three incorporates the addition of a softball field while Phase Four improved parking lots, and Phase Five replaced the football field with field turf. The new athletic complex focuses on the fan and player experience with the goal of hosting regional events that will boost the local economy and Hi-Liner pride. Today, Hanna Field is newly renovated and known as the John & Diane Hill Track & Field Complex, restoring the legacy of a growing athletic program through the generous donations of local businesses, residents, and alumni.
