In 2021, JLG Architects began working with the City of Fergus Falls, MN to complete a feasibility study that would explore options for a new outdoor aquatics center. In collaboration with a knowledgeable team of consultants, including aquatics design, operations analysis, and cost estimating, the study advised a unique solution with several pathways forward, each dependent upon levels of funding. JLG has now completed design for the project and a groundbreaking will be held later this summer. Like many communities in the region, the City of Fergus Falls set its sights on providing more recreational opportunities that could support their community’s growth into the future. The study revealed a new outdoor aquatics facility as the best project option to take full advantage of the region’s limited but favorable summer weather. JLG developed a plan to nestle the aquatics facility into an existing park to take advantage of the proximity to other park amenities, including a skate park and multiple pavilions. The thoughtful design focuses on the retention of existing mature oak trees in Roosevelt Park while providing safe and efficient access to the new center. The project is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2025.
