Demand for ice time led the City of Casper to embark on a study to add and ice sheet and support amenities to its existing arena. User groups were faced with challenges, such as early-morning or late-night ice times and limited ability to add new programs. Casper wished to start hosting more tournaments as well. The study showed that not only would the added sheet correct the ice time deficit, the entire facility could then be used for additional non-ice related activities such as indoor soccer, lacrosse, batting cages, rental space for dryland training, and even trade shows and corporate events. JLG’s team evaluated the facility, programs, and spaces and addressed feasibility, funding sources, and operational costs. Stakeholders providing input included city personnel, user groups, County Recreation, CVB, and educational groups. Supported by extensive data, these analyses showed a clear need for improved and expanded facilities.
