Black Gold

Grand Forks, North Dakota

Black Gold Farms is a multi-generation, family-owned organization firmly planted in North Dakota’s Red River Valley. The organization has been growing for more than 80 years, evolving into a global potato production, sales and service company, and industry leader as the nation’s largest supplier of chip potatoes. Looking toward future growth and advancing technology, Black Gold made the decision to build a new Corporate Headquarters in Grand Forks, ND. Since they are continually expanding, JLG worked closely with Black Gold to create a design that is built for 20% growth and a future addition. The new Headquarters is efficiently designed, including many sustainable features starting with sunshades on the exterior of the building. The sunshades allow ample indirect light and daylighting into the building, resulting in a minimal amount of electrical lighting use during the day. To reflect the company’s deep roots in the region, reclaimed wood from one of the company’s original buildings is used to make the reception backdrop. As Black Gold Farms continues to evolve, the new Headquarters will support their mission to be stewards of their environment, protecting the region’s most valuable resources for a sustainable and fertile future.
