Miller is a Principal Architect, K12 Practice Studio Leader, a current board chair at JLG, and one of the now employee-owned firm’s original majority owners.

“We are excited to announce the 2024 Leaders & Legacies award honorees,” stated Prairie Business Editor Carrie McDermott in the official press release. “We are thrilled to honor these top executives from our region. They are the region’s leaders who are role models for the next generation.”

Since earning his Bachelor of Architecture at North Dakota State University in 1994, Miller has accrued over 29 years of experience, earned over 30 industry awards, and contributed to another 70 firm and client design awards. He is a longtime AIA (American Institute of Architects) member and NCARB-certified Architect registered in Minnesota, South Dakota, and North Dakota, as well as a LEED-Accredited Professional with certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Miller is also an Accredited Learning Environment Planner (ALEP) through the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE). One of only eight ALEP architects in Minnesota, his certification signifies the highest qualification and competence in the educational facility planner profession.

“Dan’s certification as an ALEP is a mark of excellence, reflecting his enduring dedication to building healthy, safe, and sustainable learning environments that enhance student and teacher performance while supporting inclusivity, diversity, culture, and community vitality,” said JLG’s Katie Becker. “He has dedicated his life’s work to setting a higher standard in education, creating new and strategic solutions to address growing enrollment, operational sustainability, technology advancement, STEM program expansion, and This Century learning environments.”

“Dan’s leadership played a pivotal role in guiding JLG’s 2014 transition to 100% employee ownership, helping create an extraordinary legacy firm and progressive culture for equitable opportunity, internal and collegiate mentorship, organizational leadership, community relationship-building, volunteerism, pro bono work, and sustainable practices,” said JLG’s CEO, Michelle Mongeon Allen. “His dedication has been instrumental in the firm’s growth from just a handful of majority owners to over 200 employee-owners across three states, guiding geographic expansion to nine total offices, including spearheading the firm’s 2004 opening in Alexandria.”

Miller, originally from Redfield, SD, currently resides in Alexandria, MN, and is a father of five. He is an active community volunteer, serving the Alexandria Area YMCA Facilities Committee, along with the Alexandria Covenant Church in various leadership roles, including Sunday School and Men’s Ministry.
