On June 27th, 2025, the City of Grand Forks, Grand Forks Park District, and Altru Health Systems celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Altru Sports Complex, which was informed by a 2023 feasibility study. JLG is the project’s Architect-of-Record, working alongside McGough Construction, Construction Engineers, and BRS Architecture to deliver a year-round destination for indoor community recreation, with tournament play and on-site access to sports performance and training. Phase I, including 215,000 square feet, anticipates an October 2027 opening, while Phase II—adding 60,000 SF of basketball/volleyball courts and sports training—is scheduled for a spring 2028 completion. Altogether, the Complex will provide the region with a 50-meter indoor competition pool, a 25-yard instructional pool, full-size soccer and football turf, eight pickleball courts, an elevated walking/running track, and Altru sports performance and training spaces. The Complex will also be the primary practice and home competition venue for the Red River Valley Wahoos swimming team, providing a best-in-class aquatics center to support the program’s needs.
