Developed to address critical healthcare workforce shortages in rural western North Dakota and eastern Montana, the Williston State College Healthcare Training Facility is now open and actively serving students preparing to strengthen regional care. As students begin training in the new space, the facility represents a major step forward in strengthening the region’s healthcare workforce and training local talent for surrounding communities.

Designed in close collaboration with Williston State College, the facility reflects a forward-thinking approach to healthcare education that prioritizes flexibility, realism, and student well-being. The building integrates high-fidelity simulation labs, mock clinical settings, and technology-enabled classrooms that support both in-person and hybrid learning. These immersive, hands-on environments allow students to gain real-world experience before entering the workforce, while also accommodating evolving curriculum needs and accreditation pathways tied to regional university partnerships.

Equally central to the design is a commitment to human-centered learning and long-term adaptability. Abundant daylight, natural materials, and visual connections to the outdoors garner a welcoming atmosphere that supports focus, wellness, and retention—key factors in recruiting and training students in a rural setting. Energy-efficient systems and a flexible planning framework position the facility to grow alongside future programs, such as behavioral health or paramedic training, ensuring the building remains a resilient, future-ready investment in both education and community health.

Rooted in thoughtful design and community-driven purpose, this new facility positions Williston State College to educate, retain, and empower the healthcare professionals who will shape the future of rural care.
