The Martire Family Arena has been honored with a 2025 Architizer A+ Award in the Stadium and Arena category. This recognition celebrates the firm’s commitment to innovative, community-focused design and its leadership in the evolution of collegiate sports architecture.
Martire Family Arena is a state-of-the-art ice arena located in Fairfield, Connecticut, designed by JLG Architects as the permanent home for Sacred Heart University’s men’s and women’s hockey, figure skating, and club teams. Completed in 2023, the 122,580-square-foot facility was created to elevate the fan experience and provide the latest technology in event interaction and athlete training.
The arena features eight rows of premium seating, a center-hung video scoreboard, a ring board and light show for fan engagement, and dedicated spaces for youth activities. It also includes suite and club levels for hosting events and corporate outings, as well as a Pro Shop for fan gear and skate sharpening. The design maximizes flexibility and operational efficiency, supporting a wide variety of activities and events year-round.
Martire Family Arena is not only a hub for collegiate athletics but also serves as a learning laboratory for Sacred Heart University students in sports communication, media, and management. Its prominent location offers a 180-degree view of the Merritt Parkway, and the facility is designed to be a vibrant community destination for both local and regional events.
