Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital has a special division called WorkFORCE, which offers occupational health services to both the community and commercial businesses. This division has quickly expanded in a space that was not intended for healthcare, and so the physician-owned provider began to envision a new facility to better serve and accommodate the growing field, while also incorporating an Urgent Care center. Designed by JLG, the end result is a patient-centered, high-efficiency specialty hospital.
Two lobby spaces separate Urgent Care and Occupational Health to protect those that will have routine exams from those that may be ill. These separate lobbies are anchored by a joint reception space for easy entry. In order to maximize provider time with patients – rather than traveling to see the patient – staff utilization and provider collaboration were improved through an on-stage off-stage layout with a provider core servicing both the Occupational Health exam rooms and the Urgent Care exam rooms, allowing staff to flow proficiently between patient rooms.
Spaces also include DOT testing, lab and phlebotomy, a radiology suite, and physical therapy. Through collaborative design solutions for rapid healthcare growth, Sioux Falls is now able to safely and more efficiently meet the needs of the industry, patients, and providers.
