JLG Architects completed an initial feasibility study for the City of Alexandria, identifying the critical need for additional ice, flat floor space, and arena support space to create a more multi-purpose venue in the west central Minnesota region. The City later hired 292 Design/JLG Architects to fully design and execute the project. With a lengthy and tedious funding process, the design team developed a phased approach to construction to align the City’s funding with different scopes of the project, allowing the City to proceed with an impactful construction project. Phases 1 and 2 will provide significant renovations to outdated support spaces and a new entry, lobby, and circulation concourse. The Phase 1 and 2 design are setting up for a smooth integration of the Phase 3 ice sheet and expanded parking when the funding becomes available.
