Presentation Medical Center

Rolla, North Dakota

St. Kateri, formerly Presentation Medical Center, is a Critical Access Hospital that has provided healthcare services to the rural community of Rolla, North Dakota since 1939. The facility is sponsored by the Sisters of Mary of the Presentation (SMP Health System) and employs over 100 dedicated people who are committed to caring for the entire community. While their mission is to provide the region with holistic care and healing, they realized their current facility was no longer allowing them to meet the current standards of care. In collaboration with JLG, St. Kateri sought to reimagine their space, increasing workflow efficiencies, and updating their interior to create a welcoming and healing-inspired environment for patients and staff. With a collaborative planning process, the design team re-engaged an underutilized space to create an inpatient pharmacy for the hospital with modernized clinic space and an expanded emergency department to meet the increase in demand. This reconfiguration of space created a more functional workflow and increased safety for patients, caregivers, and pharmacy staff. The design also provided a more welcoming and clearly defined entry sequence to help optimize wayfinding. Today, St. Kateri offers a wide range of services to provide national care capabilities at a local level – setting a new standard in rural healthcare that promotes holistic care and healing with integrity, compassion, and respect for those they serve.
