State of Minnesota Joint Operations Center

Thief River Falls, Minnesota

When the State of Minnesota needed to expand their regional facility needs, JLG worked with them to create a sustainable and efficient plan that combined four departments into one larger, shared headquarters. State Highway Patrol, MnDOT, DNR, and Pennington County now share training facilities, vehicular maintenance, and storage, all under one roof – with one unified entrance and a landscaped courtyard. The addition to the existing shop more than quadrupled their space, going from 13,260 SF to 63,371 SF – becoming the first building to incorporate the state’s new B3 sustainable guidelines. This efficient design created a shared commons which houses conference rooms, staging, storage, lockers, and support space for all users. Through collaborative and sustainable design, the Joint Operations Center has streamlined their facility needs, and earned recognition with an AIA North Dakota Honor Award for its unique and environmentally efficient design.
