100 West Main is a 30-unit senior housing project developed by MetroPlains and located downtown Bismarck, North Dakota. Located on the site of a former automobile sales lot, the new four-story building adds density and reinforces the existing streetscape. While the building is modern in design, materials and proportions were carefully studied to relate to the existing historic downtown fabric. Consistent with the surroundings, public spaces are located on first floor along the Main Avenue right-of-way, while the upper floors are reserved for dwelling units. A large recessed entrance and canopy at the intersection of Main and First Street creates a strong focal point and transitional space from the street to lobby. Parking for the residents is placed out-of-view, at the core of the building. The several amenities catering to a senior population include a community room, game room, exercise room, sunroom and chapel.
