National EDspaces Presentation with Ron Olsen

JLG is a proud supporter of EDmarket, an organization dedicated to transforming learning environments.

In November, JLG’s K12 Education Studio Principal Architect Ron Olsen attended the EDspaces conference in Columbus, OH, where he teamed with Randy Fielding, Founder & CEO of Classroom Reimagined AI; Lennie Scott-Webber, PhD, Owner & Principal at INSYNC: Education Research + Design; and Christian Long, Founder & Guide of both [bon]fire and [good]men. Together, the four led “Design for Learning in the Age of AI: An Interactive Workshop,” which shared recent research JLG completed on this emerging topic.

The hands-on workshop asked participants to gather in small groups and generate prompts for what they believed were important classroom design patterns. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs provided the fundamental basis, and each group was asked to consider the learning practices important to them. Groups shared their thoughts with everyone before regrouping, full of curiosity about how the new prompts could impact learning spaces. Randy introduced a new AI tool in development, aiming to democratize the design process. By providing this new tool, anyone can share their ideas in three-dimensional images, supporting their educational goals.

A message from JLG’s Ron Olsen: “We hope to identify ways for educators to access tools that capture research-based solutions. Optimizing the spaces they share with learners is just one way AI can make a positive impact. With these tools, educators can build the scaffolding needed to support the development of social-emotional skills in learners. Transitioning from a knowledge-based educational system to a broader range of learning practices, we need to know what skills are needed to make the shift. Personally, I will always ask, ‘Does it develop student agency, as well as
educator resiliency?’”
