JLG Fargo Broadway | Living Building Challenge

JLG highlights how the built environment can support human and ecological health while creating a more just and resilient future.

LBC Core Introduction
Living Building Challenge (LBC) Core is a rigorous building certification framework, created by Living Future, focused on holistic, regenerative design. With emphasis on the tripe-bottom-line, projects pursuing LBC demonstrate social equity, environmental stewardship, and economic responsibility. JLG Fargo’s LBC Core certification highlights how the built environment can support human and ecological health while creating a more just and resilient future. At JLG, this commitment is shown through the creation of spaces where people can thrive, from the use of healthy material to water and energy reductions.

HUMAN-SCALED LIVING
This office was intentionally located within Fargo’s downtown core, placing it in close proximity to the surrounding community. With a Walk Score of 96 and a Bike Score of 82, the location supports walking, biking, and other forms of human-powered transportation, encouraging daily movement while reducing the reliance on single-occupancy vehicles.

RESPONSIBLE WATER USE
Water use in this office has been reduced by over 25% through the use of low-flow fixtures and mindful operational practices. Conserving water helps reduces strains on our local infrastructure and supports the long-term resilience of regional water resources.

HEALTHY INTERIOR ENVIRONMENT
Indoor environmental quality is prioritized through enhanced ventilation, low-emitting materials, and carefully maintained thermal comfort. Indoor air quality sensors are installed throughout the space to monitor conditions and support a healthy, comfortable workplace environment.

ENERGY & CARBON REDUCTION
This office uses a Building Automation System (BAS), to optimize the performance of energy-efficient mechanical and electrical systems. By continuously adjusting systems based on occupancy and conditions, energy use is reduced while maintaining occupant comfort.

RESPONSIBLE MATERIALS
Materials in this space were selected through a careful vetting process, prioritizing low-carbon, low-toxicity, and durable products. The project emphasizes Red-List Free and Declare-labeled materials, supporting human health while reducing environmental impacts across the material life cycle.

UNIVERSAL ACCESS
This office is designed to be accessible, inclusive, and welcoming. Designing for Universal access ensures that people of all abilities can comfortably navigate the space.

BEAUTY & BIOPHILIA
Natural materials and the integration of hundreds of live plants bring biophilic design into a daily experience. These biophilic design strategies reduce stress, support focus, and enhance the connection between occupants and the natural environment.
