On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 9 AM, JLG Architects was in Cheyenne, WY, to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony of Mountain View Elementary School. Laramie County School District #1 anticipates a summer 2028 grand opening of Mountain View Elementary, located at 2810 House Avenue, Cheyenne, WY.
Designed by JLG Architects in partnership with FDL Consulting and Elske Architecture, Mountain View Elementary will serve 650 students in grades 5 and 6. The Red Dogs’ 92,500-square-foot facility will be part of the District’s South Triad, supporting students in an environment tailored to their stage of development.
The design reduces the size of the school by creating groups of seven classrooms. Each grouping shares a common flexible learning space designed to break the space up into smaller group areas. Reflected natural light and warm earthy finishes are used to soften the experience, encouraging students to focus on learning.
“Our goal has been to create a place for young learners to feel comfortable as they grow and explore in a warm welcoming environment,” said Ron Olsen, Principal, K12 Education Studio at JLG Architects.
“For modernized safety, Mountain View will integrate multiple layers of security, as a means to help its users feel safe. It’s all about safety first and then you can learn. Learning increases when anxiety decreases,” added Olsen.
The new elementary school was catalyzed by Laramie County School District #1’s broader 2024–2030 facilities strategy addressing capacity, aging buildings, and district-wide enrollment/facility restructuring needs. Mountain View Elementary will be the third and final campus in the District specifically designed for the more mature needs of 5th and 6th graders, while repurposing their current elementary schools as K-4 facilities.
