JLG Architects Strengthens Healthcare Expertise with Three New EDAC Accreditations

JLG has recently expanded its evidence-based design capabilities with three team members earning their Evidence-Based Design Accreditation (EDAC) from The Center for Health Design. This achievement brings the firm’s total number of EDAC-certified architects in JLG’s Healthcare Studio to four, reinforcing the company’s commitment to data-driven healthcare design solutions.

Growing EDAC Leadership Team

The newest EDAC recipients represent diverse expertise within JLG’s Healthcare Studio:
Mark Honzay, AIA, EDAC, Principal Architect, earned his accreditation in May 2025. With over 18 years of experience, including 10 years specializing in healthcare design, Honzay is a registered architect in North Dakota, Minnesota, and South Dakota. He works alongside Healthcare Practice Studio Leader Todd Medd, AIA, leading high-performance planning, design, sustainable design integration, and technical execution.

Shauntel Fett, AIA, EDAC, Healthcare Project Manager & Team Lead, also achieved her certification in May of 2025. A Minnesota native with 14 years of architectural experience, Fett has progressed from Healthcare Project Architect to her current leadership role over the last six years, additionally contributing two years as a volunteer member of the Wright County Mental Health Advisory Council.

Krin Berntson, EDAC, LEED AP, Healthcare Project Architect, completed her accreditation in October 2025. Licensed in Minnesota and certified as a LEED Accredited Professional, she has 34 years of architecture experience, with 11 years dedicated to the healthcare sector. Berntson is a University of Minnesota alum who joined JLG Architects in September 2024.

Evidence-Based Design Impact

Evidence-based design drives JLG’s award-winning healthcare portfolio, with each project focused on improving patient outcomes, staff efficiency, rural healthcare access, and overall facility performance. The firm’s comprehensive EBD efforts—known to shorten hospital stays, increase patient satisfaction, and reduce risk of infection—involve systematically evaluating the physical and psychological effects of the built environment on users.

Healthcare Practice Studio Leader Todd R. Medd, AIA, praised the team’s dedication:
“Mark, Shauntel, and Krin’s dedication and exceptional contributions to healthcare design have not only strengthened our JLG team but have profoundly impacted our clients and our communities. Their work reflects the heart of our mission — delivering design excellence and trusted leadership where it matters most.”
