JLG Architects is seeking a Job Captain/Project Architect. Not just any professional, mind you. A JLG Job Captain/Project Architect:
- Delivers. A Job Captain/Project Architect assists the JLG Project Architects/Manager with project delivery at all phases of design. Whatever needs doing gets done, including understanding monthly staffing assignments to be sure expectations are met.
- Is eager to learn. We want our Job Captains/Project Architects to become future firm leaders, so it’s important that they are continuously developing Job Captain skills, from developing abilities to communicate with clients to create your own personal ethics.
- Does whatever it takes. Our Job Captains/Project Architects are just as responsible for our work as our lead architects, and so it’s up to them to keep us successful time and time again.
A few more attributes of a future JLG-er:
- You need to be on the path to architectural licensure. You must hold a professional degree from an accredited university (BArch or March), you have completed all AXP hours, and are in the process of taking your Architectural Registration Exams. Registration ideal, not required.
- You must understand technology. Specifically, BIM. You must be an experienced Revit user.
- You are experienced. You have ideally a minimum of 5 years of post-graduate experience in a professional setting.

From design to project close out, Job Captains/Project Architects play an integral role in the flawless execution of a project including expert knowledge of design softwares, building codes, and construction methods while working with and growing a team of Project Support/Project Technician staff.
Location: Any of our JLG offices
- Professional degree from an accredited university (BArch or MArch), with the ability to obtain licensure
- Documented completion of AXP hours
- Registration ideal, not required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Proven ability to function in all phases of project development from SD through Construction Phase
- Revit proficiency (level 4: knowledge, utilization, and ability to teach the program)
- Thorough understanding of building materials and construction methods
- Working knowledge of JLG production standards, tools, and processes
- Knowledge of building codes
- Ability to make independent decisions within a general framework
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills and an ability to work well with others
AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following (other duties may be assigned)
- Work with the Project Architect/Manager to inform the project work plan
- Execute the project work plan utilizing the JLG Project Checklist
- Informed by a competent knowledge of building materials and construction techniques, oversee and coordinate all aspects of the Revit model
- Facilitate the project Revit kick-off meeting
- Assist the Project Manager/Architect in the development and coordination of the drawings and specifications including program compliance, design intent, code and agency requirements, schedule commitments, product research, and other
- Assume direct responsibility for quality control of the project documents; review and approve the technical content and method of presentation of all project deliverables, following established JLG standards and processes.
- Understand the requirements of governmental agencies, building codes, and zoning jurisdictions.
- Provide input to the design and construction schedule, especially in communicating the technical implications of design decisions.
- Provide support for any tasks required for the successful completion of the project
- With Project Architect/Manager, clearly understand role, responsibilities, and authority of all team members on each project.
- Plan and review team assignments and work plan with Project Architect/Manager.
- Manage technical efforts of the team members, assuring that the work is executed in an orderly, timely, and coordinated manner.
- Schedule and administer team meetings, including technical specialists and consultants.
- Confidently display sufficient knowledge of engineering disciplines and construction practices to coordinate with consultants and contractors.
- Gain exposure and guided experience in client and financial management and communications
- Further develop written, verbal, and graphic communication skills
- Hone knowledge of professional ethics applying to the practice of Architecture.
- Note: assignments may include higher-level work for training/development purposes.
- No staff report directly to the Job Captain/Project Architect; however, this position does coordinate activities and review the work of - Project Support staff
- Execute the project work plan according to the JLG Project Checklist.
- Oversee the Revit model and technical execution of the project.
- Report directly to the Project Architect/Manager any matters that jeopardize the success of the project which cannot be resolved at intermediate levels of responsibility, including staff performance.
- Participate in the 360-degree employee review process, providing accurate and meaningful feedback especially as it relates to the JLG organizational structure.
