Bismarck State College Allied Health Sciences

Bismarck, North Dakota

Amid a statewide healthcare workforce shortage, the Bismarck State College (BSC) Health Sciences program responded to the challenge, collaborating with JLG to renovate and expand their current undersized and outdated facility. In the re-use of a former 35,000 SF call center, BSC took health education to the next frontier, envisioning a state-of-the-art facility with an expanded simulation center where students gain practical skills training in true-to-life patient experiences. Inside the simulation labs, students can interact with patients without leaving campus. The pediatrics simulation room is equipped with a mannequin that plays the role of a real-life patient, encouraging students to practice communication in adapting care from adults to children. BSC’s Health Sciences building exemplifies the look and feel of a real medical facility with new spaces for each department, a shared student lounge, modernized classrooms with access to daylight, and optimized wayfinding. With a future-ready foundation, BSC is reinforcing recruitment, steadying workforce shortages, and equipping students with real-world education that ensures graduates leap confidently into the careers of their dreams.
