Valley City State University Gaukler Family Wellness Center

Valley City, North Dakota

JLG Architects worked with Valley City State University, along with the Valley City Parks & Rec and community members, to develop a plan for the combined Valley City Wellness and Education Center. This program expanded the educational facility options for the VCSU Department of Health and Physical Education with class space and a human performance lab, providing the ability to have teaching stations throughout the building. Valley City Parks & Rec saw the potential of jointly utilizing the wellness center with the campus to become an asset the whole community could enjoy. At over 60,000 SF — with aquatics, multipurpose recreational gym space, group exercise studios, cardio, and weight training — this facility greatly enhances the quality of life for Valley City community and VCSU students alike.

"The Wellness Center is a great place for students to exercise with friends. There’s not only the machines and the weights, but you constantly see people playing basketball or running around the track, which is great when you want to get a short run in but it’s too cold outside! Everything about it looks good, and it will definitely push more students to attend VCSU.”
