322 DeMers Avenue
Grand Forks, North Dakota
The historic five-story former First National Bank building had been a cornerstone of the Central Business District in downtown Grand Forks until the flood of the Red River and coinciding fire in the spring of 1997, when the building was devastated.
All materials were removed down to the main structure which remained sound. The focal point of the new lobby is the restored escalator with an overlooking balcony at the landing above. New emergency egress stairs were added and clad with precast concrete to blend with the existing building. All the original window openings were retained and new historically sensitive windows were installed. Awnings at street level add a touch of nostalgia.
This project was completed by Schoen Associates prior to merging with JLG.
